How To Get The Best 3D Ultrasound Pictures

Experiencing the joy of seeing your baby through a 3D ultrasound is an unforgettable milestone.

Thanks to advancements in technology, 3D/4D ultrasound images now offer clearer and more lifelike views than ever before!

But, before you set your heart on capturing those picture-perfect, full-face 3D ultrasound snapshots like your friend, it's crucial to keep in mind:

  • No two pregnancies are alike.

  • Every baby scans differently, and not every ultrasound session produces textbook perfect images.

The quality of your 3D ultrasound photos is subject to a multitude of factors.

The Best 3D Ultrasound Pictures – Top 5 Factors

Below are the 5 most important factors affecting the quality of ultrasound images, listed in order of importance.

1. Best 3D Ultrasound Technology – HD

The new HDlive offers incredible skin-tone rendering software, and a digital flashlight to create the best lighting possible. You can truly see your baby’s features and personalities before birth.

2. Amount of Amniotic Fluid

The quality of your 3D ultrasound images is directly influenced by your hydration level during the appointment.

Adequate fluid around the baby's face is essential for clear images.

To optimize image quality, make sure to maintain proper hydration by drinking the recommended 8-10 glasses of water daily in the weeks leading up to your ultrasound appointment.

Please Note:
This is not something that you can cram in the night before your appointment.

Drinking an abundant amount of water the day of / the day before your ultrasound will do absolutely nothing to help improve the quality of your pictures.

To ensure clear photos, you must increase your water intake DAILY for – at the very minimum – an ENTIRE week.

3. Position of The Baby

For optimal 3D/4D images, it's best if the baby is positioned with the head downward, close to your cervix.

When the baby is breech, obtaining clear facial pictures becomes more challenging. Breech babies often have their feet and hands blocking the face as they are typically positioned "folded in half".

Additionally, the baby should be facing upwards toward your stomach.

If the baby is facing completely downward, towards your spine, capturing images becomes slim and we will try to get baby to move by having mom drink, eat and / or change positions.

4. Gestational Age of Baby

To secure the best 3D face images possible, it's vital to time your ultrasound appointment just right.

Typically, the prime window for obtaining clear face pictures is between weeks 30-34 of pregnancy.

During this period, the baby is more likely to be positioned head down, which is optimal for imaging. Furthermore, the baby's facial features are well-defined, and their cheeks have developed nicely with fat.

Scheduling your ultrasound too early might find the baby in a breech position with less fat accumulation.

Conversely, waiting too long may result in unpredictable outcomes as the baby begins to outgrow the space, making it tougher to capture crisp images.

5. Activity Level of The Baby

In our commitment to providing you with a memorable bonding experience and capturing the essence of your baby's precious moments, there are key factors to consider for optimal 3D ultrasound results.

We strive for your baby to be awake and active during the session.

Active movement and a variety of facial expressions not only enhance your enjoyment but also contribute to clearer and more captivating 3D images.

To encourage baby activity, we recommend consuming something cold and sweet, such as apple juice, approximately 30 minutes before your appointment.

However, if your baby happens to be asleep during the scan, particularly if nestled against the placenta, obtaining clear images may present a challenge.
